If you spend a few minutes browsing through our copy, then you probably know that we’re not exactly purists when it comes to cycling kit. Sure, we occasionally privilege traditional designs and styles over the latest trends in tube shapes and colorways, but we’re open-minded about adopting new technologies when they suit our purposes – especially when a manufacturer applies the latest fancy technology to the basics of cycling. More than almost any other bike we stock, the Aernario Basic Shimano Ultegra Complete Road Bike is one of the best blends of tradition, innovation, and solid build kit that we’ve rolled through our shop doors. For the frameset, Storck used Computer Flow Dynamics to tease aerodynamic tube shapes out of a geometry that balances the low-weight aggression of compact frames with a nod to the more cantankerous, classic-geometry purists among us. Though it’s subtle, the wind-dodging design is inherited from Storck’s time trial frames, so it’s both invisible to the eye and the wind. And since the module’s overall shape and design borrows heavily from the Fascenario 0. 7, the aerodynamic benefits don’t come with the usual tradeoff of poor handling and unforgiving road feel. When viewing the frame from the side, it looks like a traditional road frame. However, if you were to take a cross section, its aero shape would become strikingly evident. These shapes are laid-up with Storck’s own CFR/UD unidirectional carbon fiber. This curated material is the main reason why Storck has so many BOTY awards from the German cycling industry, as the unidirection orientation of the fibers mean that the sheets can be situated for targeted load-bearing properties. This lets Storck stiffen the frame without sacrificing damping qualities and – paradoxically – while using less material for a lower overall weight. The Aernario features a massive, oversized PressFit BB86 bottom bracket juncture in order to boost power transfer even further, and the seatstays connect.

Guerciotti’s old world Italian cycling know-how plus cutting edge carbon fiber technology from industry leader Mitsubishi merge to become so much more than the sum of their parts in the Guerciotti Gemini Road Bike. Prepare to launch into orbit as the monocoque frameset – built from 12K weave, TR505 carbon fiber – provides a rock solid, featherweight platform that just begs to be ridden to its maximum potential. And no matter if you’re suiting up for the Wednesday night world championships, your favorite gran fondo, a road race, a crit, or a solo ride on your local stomping grounds, the Gemini is spec’d to the nines. No corners were cut regarding the component package as you’re treated to a complete Shimano Ultegra 11-speed mechanical groupset. Buttery smooth, incredibly reliable, and plenty light to boot, you’ll wonder how you got by with anything else before. The Fulcrum Racing Quattro aluminum wheels feature 35mm deep rims to cheat the wind plus provide a light, responsive ride. No Italian bike is complete without some parts from the spiritual home of cycling and the Gemini certainly comes through in spades. The cockpit and saddle are fully Italian through and through as there’s a Deda seatpost, stem, and bar tape, while Selle Italia ably handles saddle detail.

The CycleOps 400 Pro Indoor Cycle is the most technologically advanced model they make. What differentiates it from the not-unimpressive 300 Pro model is that it uses CycleOps’ Controlled Resistance Technology. This allows the 400 Pro’s Joule 3.0 computer to conduct saved workouts for you, where the resistance has been programmed in ahead of time. You can remove the Joule 3.0 and use it on your road bike to record your favorite training loop. Have an early season race with a monster hill? Recon the course, download and edit the data, then upload back to the Joule. Ride it over and over to become familiar with the rhythm of the climb. You’ll also be able to create a ride from scratch, controlling target power outputs, slopes up or down and gearing. It comes with the Joule 3.0 cycling computer as standard equipment. The Joule, in combination with the built-in PowerTap power meter in the rear flywheel, will allow you to track a variety of information as you ride – Power in watts and w/kg and see your current, average, and max. Power zone, average power zone, and max power zone. Peak power for 5 sec, 5 min, and 20 min. WKO+ metrics: training stress score, normalized power, and intensity factor. Work measured in kilojoules, kilojoules per hour and calories. Cadence: current, average, and max. Heart rate: current, average, and max. Speed: current, average, and max. Climbing: current grade, current altitude, and total ascent. VAM: vertical ascent, current altitude, and total ascent. Ride: time, distance, and time of day. You can save a good number of rides on the Joule 3.0 CPU before downloading them to your computer, depending on ride time, of course. We’ve saved up to 20 rides, and it accepts a Micro SD card to expand the storage capacity. The Joule 3.0 uses ANT+ technology to communicate wirelessly with the PowerTap hub and the included heart rate strap. If you choose to use the Joule 3.
